Arkio can run on many devices and the main performance threshold is determined by how much processing power is available on your device. If you are running Arkio on a mobile phone or standalone Meta Quest you have less power and memory available to load complicated 3D models than e.g. a PC with a VR headset.
If you are experiencing slow performance in Arkio and did not load any custom 3D models here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and fix performance issues:
- Restart your device
- Load a new empty Arkio scene
- Remove your last saved user files when having trouble selecting an existing or new scene
- Remove your custom imported models when having trouble opening Arkio
- Connect to a different Internet source when downloading and trying out the app
- (Quest) Remove the Quest\Internal shared storage\Arkio folder from your device
- Uninstall and reinstall Arkio
Contact us at support@arkio.is if you tried the above and are still experiencing performance issues on your device so we can help figure out what's going wrong.
Troubleshooting large 3D models
If you plan to work on large 3D models we recommend using a powerful PC connected to a VR headset. (Quest in USB/WiFi link mode) PC Hardware can support up to 100 times more geometry and is more suitable for working with large scenes. If you have a large 3D model that is too heavy for your mobile device you can use the following steps to troubleshoot your model:
If your model still opens on your mobile device
- Start an Arkio meeting and join it from a PC or Mac to share the model
- On the PC/Mac you can clean up the scene by removing the heaviest 3D objects and images first
- You can then replace loaded assets in the scene with an optimized and reduced version
- If the scene does not now run better on your mobile device try starting a brand new scene and load the largest models first to see what model is causing the performance issues
If your model no longer opens on your mobile device
- Connect the device to your PC-Mac using USB and give file access permission
- Find the latest saved files in your \Arkio\UserModels or UserModelsHistory folder and copy them to your PC in \Arkio\UserModels
- Run Arkio on your PC and make that model active in the model overview
- Clean that file by removing the large models first (click gray clouds to remove broken import links)
- Start an Arkio meeting with the cleaned model and join it with your mobile device and see if it runs better
