If you are new to VR and looking for the latest technologies, we recommend the Meta Quest 3. An affordable standalone mixed reality headset that does not require a PC to run games and apps like Arkio. It supports hand tracking room scanning and it can even be connected to a PC using USB/WiFi for using traditional PC VR applications.
Meta Quest 3 and 3s
The Quest 3 headset has the latest chipset and high-resolution pancake lenses and is currently one of the most versatile and best-value headsets that allow you to work in both virtual reality and augmented reality (mixed reality) The Quest 3s is a budget version of this headset that combines some of the features of the Quest 3 (better passthrough cameras and latest chipset) with the old fresnel lenses used in Quest 2. You can download Arkio from the official Meta Quest store.
the Quest headsets are standalone devices with an app store and solutions to manage a fleet of headsets. You can also connect your Quest headsets to a PC using Airlink mode over wifi to use traditional PC VR applications. Connecting your Quest to a PC also allows you to improve render quality import larger models and use hybrid PC/VR collaboration in Arkio.
Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro
Arkio supports the older Meta Quest 2 headset that features a less powerful chipset, fresnel lenses and lower resolution black-and-white passthrough. Arkio was featured as a launch app on the Meta Quest Pro the first mixed-reality device with pancake lens technology from Meta. This headset features self-tracking controllers and the first generation of color passthrough so you can blend your real and virtual worlds in mixed reality.
Headsets tethered to PC
Arkio supports standalone Mixed Realty headsets like the Meta Quest 3 but also tethered PC VR devices like the Rift, HTC Vive and Varjo. High framerates are important for a comfortable VR experience on PC, so you need a powerful workstation and GPU if you plan to work on large imported models. Some recommended specs for a good VR workstation/laptop can be found here.
Arkio's mixed reality features only work on Quest standalone and don't work on tethered PC VR headsets as rendering stereoscopic passthrough is currently not supported by SteamVR.
Oculus Rift & Rift-S
Meta's Oculus has some discontinued tethered headsets that can still be used to run Arkio from the Windows installer of the Meta PC link store The PC version of Arkio with these headsets or Airlinked Quest headsets offers meta-specific features like Meta Avatars and hand tracking. For help and support in setting up these devices please visit the Oculus website
HTC Vive Focus 3 & Vive XR Elite
HTC's standalone headsets have a separate operating system and app store that does not (yet) support the Arkio standalone app. You can however use Arkio on these headsets by connecting your headset to a PC over WiFi and running Arkio from your PC using SteamVR.
Pico G3 and 4
Pico's standalone headsets have a separate operating system and app store that does not (yet) support the Arkio standalone app. You can however use Arkio on these headsets by connecting your headset to a PC over WiFi and running Arkio from your PC using SteamVR.
HTC Vive & Vive PRO
All tethered versions of the HTC Vive are supported by Arkio, just make sure to have a recent version of SteamVR installed on your system. If you need help with setting up Steam and your devices please visit the official Steam VR website.
Windows MR
All tethered versions of the discontinued Windows Mixed Reality headsets are still supported. You need to install SteamVR and the Windows MR support from Steam to use these devices. For help on setup or troubleshooting these devices can be found on the official Windows Mixed Reality help pages.
Valve Index and Varjo
The Valve Index and Varjo VR headsets can also be used with Arkio using our Steam VR integration. The Valve Index controllers work similarly to the HTC Vive wands.
