Arkio supports standalone VR headsets like the Oculus Quest and more powerful tethered devices like the Oculus Rift(-S), HTC Vive (Pro) and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. High frame rates are important for a comfortable VR experience, so you need a powerful workstation and GPU if you plan to work on big scenes or large imported models. Some recommended specs for a good VR workstation/laptop can be found here.
If you are new to VR or are looking for the latest gen devices we can recommend the new Oculus Quest 2. It's an affordable standalone wireless headset that supports hand tracking and does not need a PC to run games and apps like Arkio (it can even be connected to a PC using USB/WiFi for importing larger models and apps)
Oculus Quest and Quest 2
Arkio can be installed on the standalone Quest by searching for "Arkio" in the Oculus store. You can also connect your Quest to a PC using a supported USB-C cable or the new Oculus Airlink mode (Beta). Connecting your Quest to a PC and running Arkio from Windows allows you to import larger models, hybrid PC/VR collaboration, and better rendering quality.
Oculus Rift & Rift-S
Oculus disables the running of non-store software by default. You need to enable this feature in the settings of the Oculus desktop app. The Oculus version of Arkio offers enhanced user controls using tracked hand gestures. For specific help and support on setting up these devices correctly please visit the official Oculus website
HTC Vive & Vive PRO
All versions of the HTC Vive are supported by Arkio, just make sure to have a recent version of SteamVR installed on your system. If you need help in with setting up Steam and these devices please visit the official Steam VR website.
All versions of Windows Mixed Reality headsets are supported. You just need to install SteamVR and the Windows MR support from Steam to use these devices. For help on setup or troubleshooting these devices can be found on the official WIndows Mixed Reality help pages.
Valve Index and Varjo
The higher-end Valve Index and Varjo VR headsets are supported and can be used to model in Arkio using the Steam VR integration. The Valve Index controllers will work similarly to the HTC Vive wands.
